Level of Service (LoS) is a qualitative measure to analyze and compare the quality of traffic on different routes. Original developed for highways, it can also be used to analyze shipping routes.

To insure a reliable schedule, frequency and a specific Level of Service (e.g. port arrivals), many ships must be allocated to a single route.
